whoops

Published by Mark at 2:50 pm

You know those things you think, but never say….and then you accidentally do? Yeah, must suck even more when you’re a U.S. Senator. In this case: Republican Sen. Conrad Burns, whose recent comments have stirred controversy, says the United States is up against a faceless enemy of terrorists who “drive taxi cabs in the daytime [...]

“To Hell and Back”

Published by Mark at 9:57 am

Powerline posted on this video by an Israeli video-journalist of an IDF regiment purging a neighborhood of Hizbullah terrorists. I eagerly clicked on, encouraged by their description of it as “incredible,” “powerful,” and “moving.” After watching all 27 minutes, though, I must admit I was dissappointed. Perhaps the video didn’t capture the mission, but it [...]

Nerds are Neocons and Chris Matthews is the new Meletus

Published by Mark at 3:57 pm

There’s a good bit over at Powerline on Chris Matthews’ disdain for nerds and their influence on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East; go check it out. The only problem is that Matthews won’t tell us who exactly the new Socrates is. Or perhaps it’s just the entire Administration; but I have problems calling [...]

The Death of Libertarianism

Published by Mark at 9:13 am

I’ve had this link sitting in my inbox to post for quite some time, but I kept forgetting. That being said, [...]

Kerry needs to get real

Published by Mark at 1:30 pm

Honestly, how does this man take himself seriously? How could anyone else for that matter? In his most recent tantrum, John Kerry has compared Joe Lieberman to Dick Cheney and said that, …Lieberman is out of step with the people of Connecticut. Apparently the Senator from Masschussetts hasn’t viewed the most recent poll data.

Trees to Trunks: The Decline of American Heirloomery

Published by Mark at 9:40 pm

I think I just invented a word, but oh well. Tonight I helped my Dad move some furniture out of our basement and into the garage to make space for our soon to be home theater setup and in preparation of my impending move back to Hyde Park. As we were carrying one piece, he [...]

CNN: “Chicago saying au revoir to foie gras”

Published by Mark at 9:00 am

This is old news. But the ban is actually taking effect in just a few days, I guess. I, for one, am saddened. I haven’t actually met or heard of anyone (beyond the ambiguous ‘animal rights activists’ – and don’t get me started on how animals have rights and where they could possible come from) [...]

Little Miss Sunshine

Published by Mark at 11:12 pm

I’d heard that Little Miss Sunshine was supposed to be very good from several people, so I went along with my sister to see it tonight. I can confirm that it is, in fact, excellent. My favorite line: You’re not speaking……..because of Friedrich Nietzsche? I laughed the loudest and the longest in the theater; at [...]

More on Cuba and Succession

Published by Mark at 11:01 am

Some interesting thoughts from a reader over at The Corner. Meanwhile, some people are taking bets on when Castro will croak.
